Trip Report – January 00
Mill Creek, MO

Mill Creek is a great little fishery, only 25 min drive from Fort Leonard Wood, MO near Rolla with wild rainbows, sring fed, crystal clear water, low fishing pressure.  My friend, Paul Mann goes there often.

Went back out to Mill Creek again this weekend, fished 3 hours saturday, weather was nice, fishing miserable.  Only 2 small (4 in) rainbows.  Undaunted, I returned Sunday.  Weather sucked, cold & windy.

Much better day of fishing.  Landed 5.  2 VERY nice bows, a 18 in on a sz 20 red brassie, & a 21 in bow on (ugh) your Ugly Fly.  I have seen that fish plenty of times, always spook it though. Retied leader to 18 feet, opened the streamer box, & on a hunch, grabbed the Ugly Fly (you tied it prior to trip to Viktors last Nov).  Placed a beautiful cast into front of pool (under tree) & on 2nd strip saw the swirl & splash, set hook & fun began.

When I realized what fish it was, I whooped aloud, luckily no-one else was around.  It is amazing how quickly you can warm up. Went home & drank beer, watched St Louis win NFC Champ!.  Good Day, despite bitter cold.

When you tied it last year, the deal was that if I caught a fish I had to buy the beer.  I guess better late than never.
